Introducing Diamond State Reviews

The Wonder of Writing

This weekend, I was reminded why writing has always been a core part of my existence. It has always been a therapeutic way for me to express myself without the influence of outside voices. Writing has allowed me to be myself with no constraints. For a while, I got caught up in the game of life where everything creative felt like the next opportunity to be monetized. But everything you do does not need to be monetized, especially as a creative artist. Of course, we need to pay our bills, but if your main focus is money, often you will lose the essence of what it really means to create art.

So here is my re-introduction to the space of writing freely just for the fun of it, the expression of it, and ultimately using this passion and talent to connect with others on a deeper level, while highlighting some amazing people and businesses at the same time. In my mind, the art of blogging had passed away long ago for me and was not something I ever planned to bring back to the forefront, but here we are. This idea was sparked some time ago, but I kept delaying it. Today, I sat down to eat breakfast at one of my favorite local cafes and was reminded of this passion for writing. For the longest time, I wanted to launch a YouTube series that reviewed and highlighted my favorite local businesses. Yet I found every excuse in the book to not do it.

Today, that delay ends, and I am officially launching a review series called “Diamond State Reviews.” I have been a resident of Delaware for almost three full years now, and I can honestly say that living here has been quite the experience. I had no clue what to do upon my arrival, but that did not stop me from exploring and getting to know my surroundings even on my own. As a Jersey girl with southern ties and Caribbean roots, I am no stranger to wanderlust. I have moved nonstop throughout my life, and chances are, I will move again in the future. However, I plan to be here for as long as possible, and who knows maybe Delaware will become my forever home.

This “small wonder” of a state has brought me so many opportunities that I had initially thought were impossible, and I am forever grateful. So, for that reason, I believe it is only fitting that I pour back into it the best way I know how: through my writing. With that said, stay tuned for some reviews focused on places I have enjoyed since living here, including many restaurants and cafes, along with a few other local businesses. I truly hope this series will help someone who is a Delaware native, a person who is considering moving here, or someone who moved here recently and has no clue what to do here. I was once that person, but after much research, networking, and simply putting myself out there, I have found so many amazing things about this wonderful state and I am ready to share them with the world.
